Ourcommitments

The planet

One of our pillars is the prioritisation of sustainable actions. We strive to achieve zero environmental impact in our operations to contribute to combating climate change and reducing the depletion of natural resources. Therefore, we have made commitments to use renewable resources efficiently. We ensure sustainable sources of supply of raw materials, and we are committed to reducing the use of packaging and optimising our production processes. We believe this is the wisest way of doing business, as it reduces our costs, attracts more conscious consumers and helps to conserve the planet.

Our strategy, which directly supports several UN Sustainable Development Goals, focuses on:

Advocating sustainable agriculture, efficient land use and food security

  • Zero hungerODS02
  • Responsible consumption and productionODS12
  • Life on landODS15
We support and are committed to spread ecological agriculture

Agroecology focuses on food production that best uses nature's goods and services, without damaging any resources. We believe that the chemical manipulation of soil, seeds and pests can increase production. However, we believe that agriculture thrives harmlessly only when it works with local ecosystems, improving the quality of soil and plants through available biomass and biodiversity, rather than combating nature with chemical inputs. Therefore, agroecological production processes result in healthier foods and have less impact on the environment than traditional ones. For this reason, we are committed to expanding the sustainable food production system, where the land is efficiently and consciously used to provide us with top-quality ingredients.

We do not use genetically modified ingredients

We understand that genetically modified plants are more resistant to pesticides, such as herbicides and insecticides, and therefore farmers can spray them in excess, with no fear of harming the performance of their plantations. Research indicates that some weed species have developed resistance to certain types of pesticides, which further intensifies the use of these substances. In addition, there are fears that GM foods may harm human health through allergies and the development of cancers.

With this in mind, we chose not to work with genetically modified ingredients in order to ensure the quality, health and food safety of our products.

The eco-efficiency of our manufacturing methods

  • Zero hungerODS02
  • Clean water and sanitationODS06
  • Affordable and clean energyODS07
  • Responsible consumption and productionODS12
Our production processes are clean and our activities will generate zero waste

We can affirm that our production processes generate zero food waste since our equipment contains cutting-edge technologies. In this way, we ensure that no amount of food is wasted or lost during production. Also, we do not handle toxic substances, capable of harming the environment, in the maintenance and cleaning of our machines and installations.

However, we recognize that certain activities within the production chain generate material waste, such as empty packaging, paper, cardboard and retractable packaging. We want to keep them in the circular economy, where they can be reused, recycled or composted. Our vision is a world without waste, where resources are used sustainably. Therefore, we continuously study to identify the generating points and create solutions for this ecological adversity.

We are concentrated on reducing water consumption

For us, reducing water consumption means lowering costs and acting with social responsibility. We only win. So, we have thought of a strategy to save this valuable resource. We often create and reinforce internal policies aimed at our employees that raise awareness and teach simple savings methods. We establish cleaning processes that minimise water consumption and adopt dry methods, which are harmless to nature, where possible. Besides, we act carefully to reduce the flow in the system when feasible.

We are committed to saving this resource, and we are continually evaluating practices to reduce and make consumption more rationed.

By reducing energy consumption, we reduce our costs

We treat electricity consumption similarly to the consumption of water resources. Again, this means reducing costs and acting with social responsibility. It only brings benefits.

We believe that one way to save energy is to work with technology and expertise. So, we think of some methods: we often create and reinforce internal policies that raise awareness and teach simple ways of saving; we optimize the lighting of our facilities with economical devices and presence sensors; we position and use our equipment in strategic places, and we carefully control the energy consumption of our cooling system to save as much as possible.

Taking initiatives against climate change

  • Climate actionODS13
We want to improve the ecological performance of our packaging

We use renewable plastic packaging that is produced from sugar cane. Because of its origin, green plastic stores carbon molecules that were previously free in the atmosphere. Traditional plastics, of fossil origin, bring more of these molecules into the atmosphere, as they were previously trapped in the oil. Therefore, the packaging of a renewable source is capable of collaborating with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Currently, the film used by Verdali comes from the material I’m Green®, supplied by the Brazilian company Braskem®. The packaging is audited and certified.

Besides, we have partnerships with major companies in this field, and together we intend to develop even more sustainable packaging. We think about the business, we think about the environment, we think about us.

Stakeholder awareness to recycle more and use less water

  • Responsible consumption and productionODS12
  • Life below waterODS14
We promote transparency and long engagement with environmental care policies

As we grow up, we are intensifying our campaigns for caring for nature. We aim to show reality and influence people of all ages, from children to the elderly, to adopt one of our values: to act sustainably. It is a little cliché to speak in this way, but we realize that not all people are aware of the suffering of nature. Therefore, we have a responsibility to reinforce the message and together make a difference.
